What are the advantages of balloon kyphoplasty

Balloon kyphoplasty is a new technique in the field of spinal surgery. The application of this technique in spinal surgery can improve the safety of vertebroplasty, reduce the complications of surgery, and become one of the important techniques of minimally invasive spinal surgery.

The most direct advantage of balloon kyphoplasty is that it can accurately control the focus. The traditional non balloon dilatation vertebroplasty directly injects bone cement into the compressed vertebral body without balloon dilatation. Due to the fluid nature of bone cement, it will flow in the direction of low pressure, so it may flow into the spinal canal to compress the spinal cord, causing paraplegia, or even into the paravertebral drainage vein, leading to dangerous vascular embolism. Balloon kyphoplasty is to compress the balloon in the vertebral body to restore the vertebral body, and then inject bone cement. In this way, there will be no side effects of bone cement overflow, so it is safe, reliable, effective and has fewer complications.

Balloon kyphoplasty

Balloon kyphoplasty is mainly applicable to the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures, especially when conservative treatment has no effect or the pain is aggravated. In addition, it is not suitable to stay in bed for a long time, but the guide pin and bone cement cannot be inserted into the vertebral body due to severe compression, or the posterior edge of the vertebral body is damaged, and the spinal cord is compressed. This technique is mainly applicable to the vertebral fracture between chest 5 and waist 5. It can be divided into two surgical approaches: transpedicular and extrapedicle.

The former is applicable to the vertebral fracture between the chest 10 and the waist 5. After the lesion scope is located under the X-ray, the vertebral body is accurately punctured through the pedicle to enter the vertebral body, and the balloon is expanded to make the compressed vertebral body expand to form a solid "ball" like capsule cavity with four walls. Then, the balloon is taken out, and bone cement is placed in the vertebral body that forms a space. The latter is applicable to the fracture of the vertebrae between the thoracic vertebrae 5 and 10. Because the inward inclination angle of the pedicle of the thoracic vertebrae is very small, if the former method is adopted, the lateral cortex of the vertebrae may be broken because the implanted balloon is too lateral. Using the method outside the vertebral arch, the puncture needle enters the vertebrae through between the pedicle and the ribs, which can make the puncture needle have enough inclination to the inside, so that the balloon can be placed in an ideal position.

Balloon kyphoplasty can effectively correct kyphosis deformity, restore normal height of compressed vertebral body, relieve and eliminate pain, and patients can move after operation without large incision, which can avoid possible complications caused by long-term bed rest.

The balloon kyphoplasty of Changmei Medtech has been very mature, and the balloon kyphoplasty cost is relatively low. If you are interested, please come to consult us!
